United Kingdom announces intention to invest R$ 2.7 billion in forest fund created by Brazil at COP30

cbn3 September 2026 at 16:44

The UK government announced on Thursday (3) that it intends to invest 400 million pounds, equivalent to R$ 2.7 billion, in the Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF), created by Brazil during COP30 in Belém, Pará. The announcement was made by the UK's Department for Energy Security.

The British contribution will be made in the form of a loan and still needs to be formalized through the fund's operating mechanisms, also foreseeing direct participation in TFFF's decision-making structures. With this contribution, the total invested in the fund would reach R$ 37.6 billion (US$ 7.3 billion).

The fund was launched in November during COP30, with the aim of compensating countries and donors that protect tropical forests. The goal is to reach US$ 10 billion (about R$ 51.2 billion) by the end of 2026, a necessary condition for Norway to maintain its contribution of US$ 3 billion (R$ 15 billion).

Figueira da Foz may connect to Coimbra by Metrobus

The Câmara da Figueira da Foz announced that it may connect to Coimbra through a Metrobus system, following a meeting between president Pedro Santana Lopes and the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz. The mayor revealed that the Metrobus connection project was guaranteed by the government and represents only 20% of the investment needed for railway line electrification, being executed in a significantly shorter timeframe. Santana Lopes considered that the current connection between the two cities should not remain as it is, although the project should be coordinated with the high-speed railway line that will cross the region. The municipality also revealed having an agreement with CP for the transfer of the old workshop pavilions near the railway station, which it intends to requalify into an intermodal space between public transports.
