Respectful barefoot footwear is not suitable for all children: podiatrists explain when to choose it

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General3 September 2026 at 16:25

With the end of the holidays, numerous families focus on the return to school and all the material and clothing that children will need for the new school year. In this context, and with footwear being one of the most purchased items during this season, the Illustrious Official College of Podiatry of the Valencian Community issued an alert about the importance of correctly choosing footwear for the little ones.

The podologists warned that it is very important not to be swayed by fashion trends and to take into account the child's own foot morphology. Barefoot footwear, which mimics the sensation of walking barefoot, has gained popularity in recent years, but it is not always the right choice for all children.

According to the specialists, the decision about the type of footwear should be made in an individualized manner, considering the specific characteristics of each child's foot. This means that what works well for one child may not be appropriate for another.

The podiatry professionals recommend that parents consult a specialist before purchasing barefoot footwear for their children, to ensure that this option is compatible with the structure and needs of the child's developing foot.

To this day, there is no evidence that life formed in Space

There is still no evidence that life formed in Space, even though the basic ingredients — such as amino acids, sugars and nucleic acid bases — have already been found in meteorites and asteroid samples. Laboratory experiments show that more complex molecules can also form under space-like conditions, which fuels the hypothesis that essential components of life may have been produced outside Earth and then transported here. However, according to Philip Ball in an article in Chemistry World, these results are far from proving that terrestrial life began in this way.
