Primark opened this Wednesday, September 2, a new store at Forum Castelo Branco, marking its debut in the district of Castelo Branco and bringing to 14 the number of stores of the chain in Portugal. The space features more than 900 square meters of commercial area, where collections of fashion for women, men and children, beauty products, home items, as well as back-to-school offers and new seasonal collections can be found. The store also has four self-checkout counters and the opening created more than 40 new jobs in the region.

This expansion is part of the growth plan announced by Primark in May, which includes an investment exceeding 45 million euros aimed at opening four new stores and expanding one existing unit. The goal is to reach 18 stores in Portugal by summer 2027, which should generate more than 300 new jobs in the country.

In addition to Castelo Branco, the investment plan includes new stores at GaiaShopping in Vila Nova de Gaia, at Alegro Setúbal and in downtown Porto, where Primark is preparing its first street store in Portugal, in the historic Palladium building on Rua de Santa Catarina. The next opening is scheduled for September 10 at Alegro Setúbal, followed by the new spaces in Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto. The investment also includes the expansion of the store at Forum Coimbra.

Primark has been present in the Portuguese market since May 2009, having opened its first unit at UBBO, in Amadora.

The decision is not yet definitive, but puts at risk thousands of jobs associated with the Spanish manufacturer, as well as the future of the only Spanish-owned car production brand. The integration of Seat into a larger conglomerate or its discontinuation are among the options being considered by the group's management.
