The Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Council (CMAH) published in the Official Gazette a public tender for the Pavement Resurfacing, Requalification and Extension of the Drinking Water Distribution Network of Caminho da Ponta, in Vila de São Sebastião. The initial project planned the rehabilitation of the municipal road, which has a pavement structure in an advanced state of deterioration, as well as the intervention on Canal da Ponta, a stormwater drainage channel adjacent to the road.
Given that the intervention on Canal da Ponta will be ensured by the Regional Government of the Azores, the present works mainly focus on the requalification of the municipal road. The intervention includes the extension of the drinking water distribution network in the initial section, up to the limit of the area classified as urban in the Municipal Master Plan, also providing for the execution of connection branches for possible fronts with construction viability.
The works include the full resurfacing of the section, including the scarification of the existing pavement, the regularization of the pavement roadbed and the replacement of granular material. The cross-sectional profile of the road will also be adjusted to ensure adequate drainage of surface rainwater and its proper routing to the existing drainage system.
The Mayor of the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Council, Fátima Amorim, emphasized that this is a necessary and urgent investment to solve a municipal road in a high state of deterioration, which has been causing inconveniences to the local population, visitors and economic activities such as agriculture and tourism. The mayor also highlighted that the intervention represents another step in the Municipality's commitment to the continuous improvement of municipal infrastructure, promoting better conditions of mobility, safety and quality of life.
