Basil is a fairly aromatic plant widely used in cooking, especially in Italian cuisine recipes, but it can also be grown in pots to help keep mosquitoes away from the interior and exterior of the house. According to the Spanish newspaper El Economista, the plant releases a fresh, Mediterranean aroma that mosquitoes cannot stand, acting as an insect repellent.
The plant does not need much space to develop and can be kept in small or medium-sized pots, making it a relatively simple option to care for even for those who do not have much gardening experience. Growing in a pot allows it to be placed close to the kitchen or in outdoor spaces such as balconies and terraces.
However, there are care considerations during cultivation. Basil is an annual plant, meaning it will need to be planted again each year, and it is vulnerable to frost. The months of May and June are pointed out as the most suitable period for planting, allowing the plant to develop during spring.
Watering is another important aspect: the plant needs water frequently, but waterlogging should be avoided. During summer, it may be necessary to water practically every day, maintaining the balance between watering frequency and the absence of excess water.
