The day doesn't end suddenly: there are three twilights after sunset

ZAP Notícias3 September 2026 at 07:20

Twilight is the period of the day when there is still light in the air after the Sun has set below the horizon. This happens because Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight, creating the characteristic colors of twilight. On worlds without an atmosphere, such as the Moon, the sky becomes immediately dark when the Sun sets.

There are three types of twilight after sunset. The article mentions that there are three twilights, although the text was cut off before explaining them in detail.

If it were possible to observe twilight from space, it would be visible that there is no sharp boundary on Earth's surface. The shadow line over the planet, called the terminator line, extends over a fairly wide area rather than being a defined division.

To this day, there is no evidence that life formed in Space

There is still no evidence that life formed in Space, even though the basic ingredients — such as amino acids, sugars and nucleic acid bases — have already been found in meteorites and asteroid samples. Laboratory experiments show that more complex molecules can also form under space-like conditions, which fuels the hypothesis that essential components of life may have been produced outside Earth and then transported here. However, according to Philip Ball in an article in Chemistry World, these results are far from proving that terrestrial life began in this way.

Industry in Alagoas supports marine fauna conservation

The Biota Institute of Conservation, a non-governmental organization operating in Alagoas since 2009, carries out continuous monitoring and protection work for marine fauna, with emphasis on the BiotaMar Project, initiated in 2016 in the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area, the largest marine conservation unit in Brazil. The initiative records strandings of marine animals, monitors the reproductive period of sea turtles, and promotes citizen science actions through the "Stranded?!" campaign. With support from ICMBio and the SOS Pró-Mata Atlântica Foundation, the project has already registered nearly 9,000 occurrences.

'Amendoim', the 'lonely bachelor' monkey in danger of extinction, gains a partner at a park in the Amazon

Monkey Amendoim, a collared marmoset in danger of extinction that lived alone at BioParque Vale Amazônia in Carajás (PA), gained a companion on Valentine's Day with the arrival of the female Paçoca. The species is classified as in danger of extinction by ICMBio, with habitat restricted mainly to the state of Amazonas, threatened by deforestation and urban expansion. Both monkeys will have the mission of contributing to the conservation of one of the most threatened species on the planet, with Paçoca going through a quarantine period before being integrated into Amendoim's environment.
