Russia decided to close the Goethe Institute in the country, as a retaliation measure following the closure of the Russian House in Bonn. The decision was announced by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, highlighted that, if they did not make this decision, the Russians would not be respecting themselves. The closure of the Goethe Institute represents a direct response to the measure taken by Germany.
This decision comes in the context of diplomatic tensions between the two countries, with Russia adopting a posture of reciprocity in response to Germany's actions.
