The commander of the Lisbon Police (PSP) defended the need for "less alarmist discourse" regarding security in the capital. The police chief commented on the statistical data on crime in the area of the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon, known as Cometlis.
According to PSP data, overall crime in the Cometlis area increased 2.9% in the first eight months of the year. This increase contrasts with the evolution of violent and serious crime, which recorded a decrease of 0.4% compared to the same period last year.
The commander emphasized that the decrease in violent and serious crime is a positive indicator that should receive more media attention, rather than discourses that, according to him, unnecessarily alarm the population.
