Fourteen continental districts under yellow warning for hot weather until Saturday

Correio da Manhã3 September 2026 at 07:11

Fourteen districts of mainland Portugal are under yellow warning for hot weather until Saturday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA). This warning puts authorities on alert for the high temperatures expected during this period.

The IPMA forecasts for this Thursday on the mainland mostly clear or cloudless skies. Mist or fog is expected in some locations on the North and Centre coast, which may affect visibility in these regions.

The current meteorological situation justifies the issuance of the yellow warning, which represents the lowest level of danger, but still alerts to conditions that require caution, especially for groups more vulnerable to heat.

Citizens should follow updates on weather forecasts and follow the recommendations of civil protection authorities during this period of hot weather.

The beaches of Codixeira, Lagoa and South Urban Zone II, in Póvoa de Varzim, are again suitable for bathing from September 3, after the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) confirmed, through analyses carried out on August 31, that the water quality in these three bathing areas has returned to the required legal parameters. The temporary advisory, which had been issued due to elevated levels of microbiological parameters, has thus been lifted, restoring normality for swimmers at the final stretch of the bathing season.
