MP expects investigation into Gloria funicular derailment to be concluded in 2027

Diário de Coimbra2 September 2026 at 21:00

The Public Prosecution Service expects that the investigation into the derailment of the Gloria funicular, in Lisbon, should only be concluded in 2027. The accident occurred when the historic funicular cabin fell during descent, causing injuries to the passengers inside. The Judicial Police was involved in the initial investigation of the incident.

The investigation still awaits the completion of technical tests scheduled for November. These tests are considered essential to determine the causes of the accident. The final report from GPIAAF (Bureau for the Prevention and Investigation of Accidents with Aircraft and Railway Accidents) should coincide with the conclusion of the proceedings by the Public Prosecution Service.
