Police highlight social media encouragement for the entry into Ceuta: "Come down all of you to Castillejos, we are a thousand and we're getting in, I'll show you the way"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General2 September 2026 at 20:01

The National Police has highlighted the role of social media in the call for the assault on Ceuta last July. A report from the National Immigration and Borders Center (CENIF) indicates that digital platforms were used to spread calls among Moroccan citizens and migrants from other countries.

The police document includes specific messages that circulated on social media, such as one that said: "Come down all of you to Castillejos, we are a thousand and we're getting in, I'll show you the way," evidencing the coordinated organization of the mass entry attempt.

The CENIF report emphasized the importance of social media in coordinating and amplifying these calls, facilitating the concentration of hundreds of people at the border during the last days of July.

The Spanish authorities analyzed these messages as part of the investigation into how the attempts at irregular entry through the border fence during that period were planned and carried out.
