PEC on ending the 6x1 schedule approved in Senate CCJ and heads to final voting stage

cbn2 September 2026 at 19:26

The Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Federal Senate approved the base text of the Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) that provides for the end of the 6x1 work schedule. The vote was symbolic, with a count of 23 votes in favor and 4 against. Senators Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), Jaime Bagattoli (PL-RO), Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS) and Tereza Cristina (PP-MS) requested express registration of their votes against the proposal.

Senator Omar Aziz's report (PSD-MA) maintained the text approved by the Chamber of Deputies to accelerate the process and avoid new detailed analysis. The CCJ also approved an urgency request for the matter, seeking to expedite the legislative process.

With the committee's approval, the PEC now goes to the plenary of the Federal Senate, where it will be submitted to a two-round vote. However, there is no commitment from the president of the House, Davi Alcolumbre, to include the text immediately on the voting agenda.

The proposal reduces the maximum work limit from 44 to 40 hours per week, guaranteeing two days of rest for workers, without salary reduction. Implementation will be done gradually, in transition stages that will still be detailed during the final processing of the matter.
