The defense of a police officer appealed the conviction for homicide of Odair Moniz, insisting on the self-defense claim and requesting the acquittal of the officer. The appeal was filed after the conviction at first instance.

The police officer was sentenced to three and a half years of suspended sentence, which means he will not have to serve the sentence in prison, provided he does not commit other crimes during the established period.

In addition to the sentence, the court also decided that the officer must pay 90 thousand euros in compensation to the family of the deceased victim Odair Moniz, as compensation for the damages caused.
