The new facilities of the Lagoa Senior Center were inaugurated on August 31st, on Rua Basílio Teles. The space features 172 square meters, capacity for 120 to 150 people simultaneously and 60 seated places, having been adapted and furnished by the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro in an investment of approximately 40 thousand euros.
The move aims to improve the conditions of use of the center and provide greater comfort to seniors, allowing social, cultural, recreational, motor skills and cognitive stimulation activities to be developed in a more suitable space. The president of the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro, José Fernandes, highlighted during the inauguration that the space was designed for socializing, sharing, learning and to provide more quality of life.
The Lagoa Senior Center offers activities such as handicrafts, music and yoga classes, dances, massages and health education sessions. Currently, the center has 341 registered users, being frequented on average by 20 to 30 people daily, a number that increases on days with specific activities.
The intervention directed at the senior population also extended to the Carvoeiro Senior Center, where the walls were painted and new furniture was purchased. This center has 75 registered users. The mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação, was present at the ceremony and congratulated the executive of the Union of Parishes for the completion of the new facility.
