Ventura confirms motion of censure: "Luís Neves' language is a danger to democracy"

Expresso2 September 2026 at 17:04

Chega, led by André Ventura, confirmed the presentation of a motion of censure against the government. This is the second motion of censure presented by the party since February 2025. Ventura considered that the language used by the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, represents "a danger to democracy", thus justifying this extreme measure against the executive.

The first motion of censure had been presented in February 2025, having as its basis the scandal involving the prime minister's company. Now, the controversies surrounding the Minister of Internal Administration motivated this new political initiative by Chega.

During the presentation of the motion, Ventura did not hesitate to call Luís Neves a "gangster", in reference to the controversies that have marked the minister's term. This strong language reflects Chega's confrontational position regarding the acting member of the government.

The motion of censure represents a constitutional instrument that allows the opposition to demonstrate its disagreement with the executive's political direction. It now falls to the Assembly of the Republic to debate and vote on this initiative by Chega against the government.
