The Municipality of Vila de Rei began on August 31st its third operation of washing and disinfecting municipal solid waste containers, an intervention that will run until September 11th and covers the entire municipality territory. This initiative, which repeats quarterly, is part of an operational plan focused on the continuous improvement of public services, with the objective of guaranteeing high standards of sanitation and hygiene for both residents and tourists.
The operation is carried out through a mechanical washing system directly at the locations where the containers are installed, as opposed to the manual method that requires the collection and transport of the equipment. The process ensures deep washing and disinfection both inside and outside the containers, using specific products with bactericidal action.
Miguel Silva, the Councilor responsible for the Environment portfolio, highlights that this quarterly routine reinforces the Municipality's strategic objective of continuously improving urban hygiene. However, the official recalls that the success of this operation also depends on the collaboration of all residents.
Over the next few days, the regular waste collection schedule may experience some occasional delays. Therefore, residents are appealed to double their care when depositing waste, using well-closed bags and avoiding spills of liquid materials, embers or ashes in the containers.
