Lula and Janja meet with Leonardo DiCaprio at the Palacio do Planalto

cbn2 September 2026 at 20:20

President Lula and First Lady Janja met this Wednesday (2) with actor Leonardo DiCaprio at the Palacio do Planalto. The meeting was not on the official schedule initially and was first disclosed by Janja on social media, later updated by the Presidential Communications Secretariat.

DiCaprio attended the meeting as a representative of Re:wild, a nature conservation and climate change combat organization that he himself helped cofound. The actor has internationally recognized work on environmental issues.

In 2019, DiCaprio participated in initiatives to finance the protection of threatened areas, including a fund focused on the Amazon and combating forest fires. The actor has previously had conflicts with former President Jair Bolsonaro, when he rebutted accusations made by the then president about Amazon fires and defended the work of non-governmental organizations.
