Tomás da Cunha destroyed Benfica's million-dollar signing, Richard Ríos, who will be loaned to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. The Colombian midfielder will be loaned for 3 million euros in a deal with no purchase option, with the Saudis set to pay the full salary of the player.
On his social media, the commentator did not hold back on his criticism of the Colombian, stating that "he has as much physical availability as thirst for prominence" and that "he does not know his own limitations." Tomás da Cunha also considered that Marco Silva quickly realized that Richard Ríos is not a player for the Benfica he idealizes.
Regarding the deal with the Saudis, Tomás da Cunha questioned its justification. The commentator considered that, while Ivanovic's loan is even understandable to revalue the forward, in Ríos' case there is no obvious justification, arguing that keeping the player in the squad with a secondary status would not be worth it.
Tomás da Cunha also stated that, theoretically, there would be a market to immediately recover the investment made by Benfica in Ríos, allowing them to gain space and salary margin, thus postponing a more definitive decision on the Colombian player's future.
