Six people were sentenced to up to nine years in prison for cocaine trafficking in Portugal. The convictions come in the context of a case involving the import of drugs hidden in frozen squid.

An importer, who filmed an alleged bribe to tax inspectors, ended up being sentenced to the maximum nine years. This individual attempted to corrupt authorities as part of the investigations.

The ruling, which CNN Portugal had access to, reveals that more than a ton of cocaine from Ecuador entered Portugal. The drug was transported disguised in shipments of frozen squid.

Authorities followed the trail of the operation until the cargo arrived in Portuguese territory, culminating in the identification and subsequent conviction of the six people involved in the international trafficking network.
