The Municipality of Loulé is promoting participatory sessions between September 10 and 13 for the development of management plans for four protected areas: the Local Protected Landscape of Rocha da Pena, the Local Protected Landscape of Fonte Benémola, the Local Natural Reserve of Foz do Almargem and Trafal, and the Local Natural Monument of Gruta de Vale Telheiro. The sessions are aimed at both the general public and public entities and associations, with the objective of defining necessary measures for the protection, conservation, and enhancement of these areas.
According to Loulé City Council, the management plans are fundamental instruments for biodiversity management, based on an integrated approach that considers the biological richness of the territory, the pressures and threats to which the heritage is subject, the positive or negative impacts, and the management needs regarding ecological requirements, with the objective of maintaining or improving the conservation status of these natural values.
The initiative is supported by European Funds, under the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Programme. The sessions for the general public take place in different locations: on the 10th, on Gruta de Vale Telheiro at the Parish Council of São Sebastião; on the 12th, on Foz do Almargem at the Quarteira Auditorium and on Rocha da Pena at the Parish Council of Salir; and on the 13th, on Fonte Benémola at the Community Centre of Querença.
Parallel sessions are also being held for public entities and associations: on the 10th at the Municipal Library of Loulé for Gruta de Vale Telheiro, and on the 11th, also at the Municipal Library, for Foz do Almargem and for the two Local Protected Landscapes.
