Tax Authority and Maritime Police Detect Invoice Irregularities on Portuguese Beaches

Jornal Económico2 September 2026 at 14:53

The Tax and Customs Authority, in collaboration with the Maritime Police, is carrying out an inspection operation called "Mar à Vista" on Portuguese beaches. The objective is to promote voluntary compliance with tax obligations by economic operators working in beach concessions.

Among the detected infractions are the failure to issue invoices and the use of invoicing programs that do not comply with the established legal requirements. These practices constitute violations of the tax obligations that operators must observe.

The operation began on July 29 and will continue until the end of September, covering beaches in the districts of Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal and Viana do Castelo. Participating in this action are 63 inspectors from the Tax Authority and 58 operatives from the Maritime Police.

Through direct contact with economic operators, the inspectors have been raising awareness about the importance of issuing invoices and correctly complying with legal obligations. This action aims to contribute to the strengthening of tax fairness and ensure fair competition conditions among economic agents.
