Setúbal participates with three activities in the fifth Open House of Archaeology, an initiative that aims to raise awareness of the population for heritage and bring archaeology closer to the public. The activities take place on the 12th, in three different locations in the city: the Museu de Setúbal/Convento de Jesus, the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of the District of Setúbal (MAEDS) and the historic center. All require prior registration and have limited spots.
The first activity, "The Other Side of the Convent," takes place at 11h00 at the Museu de Setúbal/Convento de Jesus and consists of a visit to the convent spaces identified in the archaeological intervention that are usually not accessible to the public. The second activity is the experimental archaeology workshop "Marks of Time: Engraving on Slate Plates," from 10h00 to 12h00 at the MAEDS. Participants start with a visit to the permanent archaeology exhibition to learn about prehistoric portable art and votive objects, followed by a practical demonstration of engraving on slate plates. At 15h00, the guided tour "Setúbal in Roman Times" takes place, with the meeting point at the MAEDS, also covering the House of Mosaics and the Ask Me Arrábida space on Travessa Frei Gaspar. With 30 spots available, registration is made via email at [email protected] or by phone at 265 239 365.
