PS first secretary, José Luís Carneiro, stated that it won't be because of the Socialist Party that there will be a "political crisis" in Portugal. The statement was made in Maputo, Mozambique, during an official visit.
Carneiro was questioned about the possibility of PS advancing with a motion of no confidence against the Government, after Chega admitted presenting such a motion. The socialist leader chose not to directly comment on the right-wing party's intention.
PS first secretary emphasized that the Portuguese voted in early legislative elections and that President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa made his decisions within constitutional legality. This position comes at a time of political tension in Portugal, after the fall of Luís Montenegro's Government.
José Luís Carneiro was in Maputo for an official visit, where he participated in various institutional activities with FRELIMO, the party that governs Mozambique.
