Actor Gracindo Jr., icon of Brazilian drama, dies at 83

On Wednesday (2), actor and director Gracindo Jr. died at the age of 83. The cause of death was not revealed, but the passing occurred at his home in Rio de Janeiro. The information was confirmed by his son, Pedro Gracindo.

Throughout his career, the artist dedicated more than 50 years to theater, television, radio, and cinema. He participated in the inauguration of TV Globo in 1965, acting in soap operas at the beginning of the network.

Gracindo Jr. was born Epaminondas Xavier Gracindo and was the son of another renowned actor, Paulo Gracindo. His career in the arts began in 1959, when he was only 15 years old and auditioned to work at Rádio Nacional. There, he worked as an actor and writer.

In theater, he debuted with the play "A Escada," by Oswald de Andrade. On television, he appeared in soap operas such as "Rosinha do Sobrado," "Padre Tião," "A Rainha Louca," "A Próxima Atração," "Os Ossos do Barão," and "Supermanoela."
