Six people died on beaches and in bathing areas of the Setúbal district during the period from May 1 to August 31. The deaths were registered by the National Maritime Authority.
Of the six fatalities, five died due to sudden illness and one died from drowning. The Setúbal district covers several coastal areas and beaches in the southern region of Portugal.
The maritime authorities monitored these incidents throughout the summer bathing season. This type of record is usually monitored by the National Maritime Authority for coastal safety purposes.
