The Municipal Library Álvaro de Campos, in Tavira, is promoting during the month of September the project "Poetry in Good Company", an initiative aimed at children between 9 and 13 years old that combines poetry reading with interaction with dogs. The program aims to stimulate a love for books, reinforce confidence in reading aloud, and provide a more relaxed environment during the sessions.
Inspired by international dog-assisted reading programs, the project is developed in partnership with the Unit for Animal Welfare and Health (UBESSA), which adapts this concept to the library context. The sessions include moments of reading preparation, expressive reading exercises, and interaction with the animals, always accompanied by UBESSA technicians.
Four sessions are planned, scheduled for September 9, 16, 23, and 30, between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM, lasting approximately 90 minutes each. Under the motto "More than reading poetry, it's sharing it with love", the project aims to promote a positive relationship with reading, particularly aimed at children who show less confidence in reading aloud.
