Portuguese banks granted a record amount of 2.3 billion euros for house purchase in July, representing the highest value ever for this type of credit, according to data released by the Bank of Portugal.
New loan contracts for house purchase increased by 166 million euros that month, showing significant growth in mortgage lending.
In addition to the amount granted for new contracts, 491 million euros of housing credit was also renegotiated, although this amount was 109 million euros lower than in June.
