Corn Producers Appeal to the Minister of Environment to Take Ownership of Water Abstraction Licensing Process That Has Been Dragging on for More Than 15 Years

The National Association of Corn Producers (ANPROMIS) is appealing to the Minister of Environment to directly intervene in the water abstraction licensing process, which has been dragging on for more than 15 years. The association requests that the ministry take on the resolution of this bureaucratic blockage that affects approximately 4,000 water abstractions.

Farmers denounce that a large number of processes, submitted in 2010 to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), were lost during a computer migration of the systems. This loss of documentation left thousands of water abstractions to be regularized, creating a situation that has been ongoing for more than a decade.

ANPROMIS argues that a swift solution is needed to resolve this administrative problem. Corn producers consider that the direct intervention of the Minister of Environment is essential to unblock a process that has prevented the legal regularization of these water abstractions.
