Mercadona will open its first store in the district of Vila Real on September 10th, marking its arrival in yet another district in the national territory. The Spanish supermarket company already has 74 stores operating in Portugal, having opened its first in the country in 2019.
Mercadona's presence in the Trás-os-Montes region was already felt through its partnership with D'Chaves, a company specializing in the production of pastel de Chaves certified with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). This collaboration represents an example of the business model the company maintains with local suppliers.
In collaboration with its suppliers, Mercadona has been developing an ecosystem that promotes continuous improvement of products and processes, allowing it to respond more efficiently to customer needs. The company states that this model is based on long-term relationships and shared growth.
The Spanish company also states that this model contributes to boosting local economies through investment, the creation of quality employment and the strengthening of the business fabric of the regions where it operates.
