The beaches of the Aveiro region achieved a drowning-free bathing season until the end of August 2026, thus obtaining a "clean record" in terms of fatal accidents. This information was reported by Rádio Terra Nova.
The Maritime Authority presented data for the period between May 1 and August 31, covering the entire Portuguese coast. Across the country, 1,285 rescues and 2,359 first aid actions were recorded during this period.
Despite the positive balance in the Aveiro region, Portuguese beaches in general recorded 22 fatalities during the bathing season in question.
