September marks the return to classes, but also to extracurricular sports activities such as football, basketball, gymnastics, athletics, and dance. After several weeks of vacation in which many children considerably reduced their physical activity, thousands of young people abruptly return to high-intensity training.
The Ilustrious Official College of Podiatry of the Valencian Community warned that this sudden restart of sports activity, combined with the lack of prior physical conditioning, favors the increase of acute and overuse injuries at the beginning of the school year.
This trend, known as the "September effect," affects children and adolescents who resume sports practice without proper physical preparation after the vacation period.
