In the 22nd edition of the L'Oréal Honor Medals for Women in Science, four Portuguese researchers were recognized for their impact in the areas of health and marine sustainability. The 2025 laureates are Ana Filipa Cruz Esteves, Cláudia de Freitas Martins, Fátima Eduarda Oliveira Santos and Inês Sofia Moutinho Alves, whose projects address concrete challenges of social relevance.
The selection of applications was conducted by a scientific jury led by Alexandre Quintanilha, professor and researcher in the field of Physics, with the participation of specialists such as Maria Reis and Miguel Miranda. The jury evaluated several proposals with rigorous criteria of excellence and innovation.
The award ceremony is scheduled for September 16 at Teatro da Luz in Lisbon, where each researcher will receive an individual prize of 15 thousand euros to fund the development of their projects.
The Honor Medals result from a partnership between L'Oréal Portugal and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), with the objective of supporting women in research and promoting greater inclusion in science. Since its creation, the initiative has already benefited more than 70 researchers in Portugal and is part of the international L'Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science program.
