More than half (52%) of Portuguese children and young people surveyed in a report say they have seen hate messages online at least once in the last year. This proportion rises significantly to 72% when considering only adolescents aged 16 to 17.
The report thus reveals that exposure to hate speech on the internet is particularly high among Portuguese youth, especially in the older age group of adolescence.
The study was conducted through surveys of children and young people in Portugal, collecting data about their experiences with harmful content on digital platforms.
