85% of Portuguese children and young people already use generative AI. Schoolwork among the main uses

A recent study revealed that 85% of Portuguese children and young people already use generative artificial intelligence. This data shows the rapid adoption of this technology among the youngest in Portugal.

Schoolwork is among the main uses of generative AI by this audience. The tool is becoming increasingly present in the daily academic life of Portuguese young people.

The use of AI for school purposes clearly increases with age. Among children aged 9 to 11, 28% use the technology for school purposes. This percentage rises to 48% in the 12 to 14 age group and reaches 63% among young people aged 15 to 17.
