The report reveals that 72% of Portuguese adolescents between the ages of 16 and 17 were exposed to online hate speech. This exposure includes hate messages or comments that circulate on digital platforms.
The study considers exposure to this type of content a central dimension of digital risks. This classification is due both to the high frequency with which young people are confronted with this speech, as well as the significant emotional impact that this exposure causes on adolescents.
The phenomenon of online hate speech thus affects a large part of Portuguese young people in this age group, highlighting the growing concern about the safety and well-being of teenagers in the digital environment.
