The impact of almost 50 million euros puts an end to Lisbon Metro's "loop" line. This decision closes a controversial chapter on the expansion of the Portuguese capital's metro network.
The Government revealed that the alternative solution to the circular line would cost 18.13 million euros. This amount represents the value necessary to implement a viable alternative to the initially planned circular route.
One of the most concerning aspects of this situation relates to the investments already made. 30.1 million euros were invested in the new viaducts at Campo Grande, structures that would remain unused if the circular line did not proceed.
Besides the financial waste, the Campo Grande viaducts face risks regarding financing. This situation raises questions about the management of public funds and the lack of integrated planning that led to this outcome.
