The magazines Lux, Lux Woman, Lux Deco and Lux Moda e Beleza became the property of DOTMEDIA this Tuesday, a company based in Portalegre with Carlos dos Santos as administrator since February. The new team is led by Carla Barreira as editorial director and Maria João Jorge as commercial manager, both with extensive experience in the publishing sector.
Masemba, the company that produced the magazines until then, was declared insolvent in July. The insolvency proceedings were of a limited nature, meaning there was no assets to pay debts, no creditor claims were received, and workers were unable to obtain statements for the purpose of unemployment benefits or the Salary Guarantee Fund.
The approximately 20 workers at Masemba received, a little over a month later in August, a notice informing them that the company would cease operations on August 31st. The employees were unaware that the titles would change hands the following day, having closed that night the print edition of Lux that would reach newsstands.
The magazines were registered with ERC as belonging to Masemba, but the company Notas Icónicas, owned by Luís Mendes and Cláudia Martinho, had already been paying salaries since 2023. When Masemba closed, the titles no longer belonged to it, having been taken over by DOTMEDIA.
