The 88-year-old healer Santo Piana died on Monday morning after 19 days in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Joaçaba, Santa Catarina. The elderly man could not withstand the complications resulting from the injuries he suffered during a robbery at his residence, which occurred on August 12, in the rural area of Tangará, also in Santa Catarina.
The crime was committed at dawn by four men who invaded the healer's house and demanded money. Since Santo did not hand over an amount, the criminals tied him up and beat him inside the property. Before fleeing, the attackers set fire to the elderly man's clothes and took belongings from the residence.
Santo Piana remained hospitalized throughout the period until his death, which occurred on Monday morning. Authorities continue investigating the case to identify and locate those responsible for the crime.
