The FBI seized over 480 thousand euros in cryptocurrencies that were destined for Hamas. US authorities reported that the Hamas group began testing fundraising with virtual currency in early 2019.
Hamas made these donation requests through its Qassam Brigades, which constitute the military wing of the organization. The appeals were made publicly on the group's Telegram channel.
In addition to Telegram, Hamas also used direct online collection to obtain cryptocurrencies. This operation by US authorities represents one of the largest seizures of cryptocurrency funds linked to the extremist group.
