An adult male yellow-snouted caiman, nearly two meters long and weighing approximately 45 kilograms, was rescued on Tuesday morning (1st) in Itaipu, in the Oceanfront Region of Niterói. The animal was camouflaged in a median strip on Avenida Augusto Ferreira Ramos, near the João Mendes River. The Fire Department was called at around 5:44 a.m.
The reptile was discovered after a resident passing by the location with her pet noticed the caiman and called the fire department. The call was handled by teams from the 4th Maritime Group (GMar Itaipu).
During the response, the area was isolated to keep onlookers away and ensure the safety of both the people and the animal. The rescue video shows one of the firefighters who participated in the operation.
