The body of an 81-year-old woman, identified as Analice Cavalcante, was found in an advanced state of decomposition inside a house in Piedade, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of this Tuesday. According to firefighters, the woman had been dead for several days.
In the property, teams from the Fire Department, Civil Police, city hall and councilman Luiz Ramos Filho (PSD), from the Animal Defense Commission of the Rio de Janeiro City Council, found approximately 20 dogs and a cat in precarious conditions, in addition to pigeons kept in cages and carcasses of other animals. The dogs showed signs of malnutrition, skin diseases and one of them was blind.
The location was completely degraded, overrun with garbage, feces, urine, rat and cockroach infestation. The situation was discovered after neighbors called reporting the bad smell and the elderly woman's absence.
