Central Alentejo Local Health Unit opens urgent recruitment competition for specialist doctors

Rádio Campanário1 September 2026 at 19:01

The Central Alentejo Local Health Unit opened an urgent competition for the hiring of nine specialist doctors, published in the Official Gazette on August 31. The procedure sets a deadline of only five working days for the submission of applications, with the expected end date of September 7. ULSAC justifies the use of this urgent procedure with the need to ensure the placement of doctors and guarantee the normal functioning of the National Health Service.

The job positions are intended for the assistant category, with an individual permanent employment contract and a 40-hour weekly schedule. The vacancies are distributed across three medical areas considered priority: four positions in Gynecology/Obstetrics, three in Neurology and two in Infectious Diseases. The selected professionals will work at the Central Alentejo Local Health Unit, whose headquarters are in Évora, and may also perform duties at other facilities of the health unit or at institutions with collaboration agreements.

The competition is aimed at doctors who have completed their medical residency and hold the specialist degree in one of the covered areas. Among the eligibility conditions is the absence of an indefinite-term employment relationship with services, entities or public bodies. Remuneration will be set at the first remuneration position of the assistant category, except for candidates with consultant status whose employment relationship with the NHS ended at least three months before the opening of the competition, who will be positioned at the first position of senior assistant.

The application process is exclusively electronic and must be sent in PDF format to the ULSAC recruitment address, including proof of specialist degree, classification of the final medical residency evaluation, grade from the curriculum discussion interview, and proof of registration with the Portuguese Medical Association.
