The teachers from private schools in Rio de Janeiro marked a 24-hour strike for this Wednesday (02), approved by the Union of Teachers of the City of Rio de Janeiro and Region (Sinpro-Rio). The movement occurs amid negotiations of the salary campaign of the category and aims to pressure educational institutions for advances in demands, including the salary increase. A public protest is scheduled to occur at Largo do Machado starting at 11 in the morning.
The decision regarding classes on this Wednesday varies according to each school. Some institutions have already informed parents of students that they will not operate on that date, due to teachers' adherence to the strike. Others, however, decided to keep the school open, despite the expected absence of some teachers.
Schools such as São Vicente, CEAT, Edem, Andrew, and Casa da Mangueira have already informed that they will not open on Wednesday. On the other hand, schools such as Escola Parque, Cruzeiro, and Franco Brasileiro announced that they will maintain their activities, even in light of the absence of striking teachers.
