Financial education for children can start before the first allowance and be taught through common daily situations. Ricardo Hiraki, administrator, CEO and founder of Plano Fintech, states that teaching children to handle money doesn't require starting with investments, interest, or spreadsheets.
A survey by Serasa in partnership with Instituto Opinion Box, released in 2025, reveals that 53% of Brazilian parents started talking about finances with their children before age 8. The survey, conducted with 1,112 guardians, also shows that 41% consider the first years of elementary school the ideal period to start this learning.
According to Hiraki, children's financial education begins with the understanding that resources are limited and that consumption decisions have consequences. The article lists five habits that parents can adopt to teach financial education from an early age.
