The forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere point to maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius on September 3 and 4 across most of the national territory, including Setúbal, which has triggered a "Yellow" alert warning for this period.
This hot weather pattern is accompanied by a gradual decrease in relative humidity and poor nighttime recovery across much of the territory, starting on September 2, which may cause tropical nights with minimum temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius.
The combination of these instability factors, with north winds sometimes strong south of Cape Carvoeiro, causes a gradual increase in the danger of rural fires across almost all regions of mainland Portugal, being most concerning on September 3, especially in the Algarve and the interior of the country.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection recommends the adoption of prevention and precaution measures regarding the danger of rural fire, and appeals to the population to avoid sun exposure between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, apply sunscreen every two hours, maintain good hydration, and wear cool clothing that covers the body.
