Washington grants 100 years of Venezuelan oil exploration to US private companies

Washington granted private US companies oil exploration rights in Venezuela for a period of 100 years. The company NABEP may drill 17 oil fields over a century, covering a vast area of Venezuelan territory.

The fields in question contain approximately 65 billion barrels of crude, which represents about one-fifth of Venezuela's total oil reserves. This volume of reserves places Venezuela among the countries with the largest confirmed oil deposits in the world.

The concession represents a milestone in energy relations between the two countries, giving North American companies priority access to Venezuelan oil resources for an extraordinarily long period. This strategic partnership places NABEP in a privileged position in the Venezuelan energy sector.
