Businessman Leonardo Souza Ceschini was sentenced to 13 years and 24 days in prison for the murder of his wife, Érica Fernandes Alves Ceschini, following an argument motivated by the rivalry between the soccer teams Corinthians and Palmeiras. The trial took place on Monday night at the 5th Criminal Court of the Capital, in São Paulo. The Jury Council recognized the authorship and materiality of the crime, in addition to finding that femicide and the use of cruel means were present.

The crime occurred in January 2021, at the couple's home, during the early morning hours. According to the indictment by the São Paulo Public Ministry, the fight began after a disagreement related to a Copa Libertadores match, when Palmeiras defeated Santos 1-0. Érica was a Palmeiras fan and Leonardo was a Corinthians fan.

During the argument, Leonardo grabbed a knife and struck the woman multiple times, with blows to the chest, back, and legs of the victim. The crime occurred in the presence of the couple's two children, a circumstance that further aggravated the situation.
