PS insists on subcommittee about SAFE military investments and blames Government for controversies

Correio da Manhã1 September 2026 at 13:44

PS reiterated its insistence on creating a subcommittee to monitor SAFE's military investments, accusing the Government of being responsible for the controversies surrounding this issue. This is a resubmission of an initiative that had already been debated the previous year.

The proposal was rejected the previous year with votes against from PSD and CDS-PP, while Chega chose to abstain. Despite the previous result, the socialists maintain pressure for this subcommittee to be created.

The party holds the executive responsible for the controversies surrounding SAFE's military investments, suggesting that the lack of transparency and parliamentary oversight is at the root of the problems. PS believes that greater democratic scrutiny on these issues is necessary.

The initiative aims to ensure greater parliamentary oversight over the contracts and investments made by SAFE in the military domain, an area that has generated considerable public discussion and questions about its management.
