In a statement made this Monday in Madeira, Luís Neves stated: "They can keep screaming, I will keep governing". The minister emphasized that the Government has a Minister of Internal Administration with experience and that he cannot be attacked for inaction, which is why, according to him, his critics chose "the politics of fear", something he said does not intimidate him.
The leader of Chega, André Ventura, threatened to present a motion of censure against the Government on Tuesday if the prime minister does not resolve the "situation" of Luís Neves. Ventura stated that he wants the prime minister to resolve a situation that, according to him, "shames everyone" and the European allies. The party has persistently demanded the resignation of the minister of Internal Administration.
Luís Neves has been under strong scrutiny this summer for various reasons, including decisions he made when he was director of the Judicial Police. Chega is also preparing a request for an inquiry committee into the case, which will be presented after the return of parliamentary holidays.
