A stabbing attack at Times Square in New York resulted in the death of a 32-year-old woman and left a 68-year-old man injured. The incident occurred on Monday (31), around 4:30 PM, near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, one of the busiest and most tourist-heavy areas of the city. The suspect, a 49-year-old woman, attacked the victims seemingly at random and without provocation, using knives.

The suspect was identified as Pamela Cisneros, 49, a Queens resident. According to authorities, she had a history of mental health issues but no known criminal record. The injured man was taken to a hospital and remains in stable condition, while the 32-year-old woman did not survive her injuries.

After the attacks, police located the suspect near an NYPD substation. Officers repeatedly tried to convince her to drop her weapons, also using a Taser, but she continued advancing toward the officers. Faced with the threat, the officers fired at the woman, who also died later.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the incident as a "senseless" attack and stated that, at this time, there is no indication of a connection to terrorism. Police continue to investigate the circumstances and motivation behind the attack, which caused moments of panic at Times Square.

Traffic changes: pedestrian bridge becomes just a "decoration" locked with iron bars

The Funchal City Council announced road changes that include the closure of a pedestrian bridge, which is now locked with iron bars, becoming a "white elephant". The mayor considers that the municipality "inherited" a city with many problems and tries to remedy situations with solutions that some consider insufficient, comparing the effort to "patching new cloth on old clothes". The changes take effect from the day after the announcement.

APA advises against swimming at three beaches in Póvoa de Varzim due to water contamination

The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) has advised against swimming since Tuesday, September 1st, at three beaches in Póvoa de Varzim — Codixeira, Lagoa, and Zona Urbana Sul II — due to the detection of elevated levels of intestinal enterococci and/or Escherichia coli in the water. The measure, which is precautionary, will remain in effect until new laboratory analyses confirm that the required water quality parameters for swimming have been restored. Authorities recommend that swimmers respect the existing signage and follow the updated information provided by APA.
